What Our Onboarding Process Looks Like

In order for us to achieve the best possible results for our clients, we have a 14-working day onboarding process.


This begins with a call between you and our Head of Client Services before you’ll get the chance to hop on a call to meet your entire dedicated in-house team.


Once your introductory calls are complete, we kickstart with our bespoke onboarding journal which includes the following:

Once we complete our onboarding process, our in-house creative team get to work creating new, custom copy and content for launch, designed specifically to suit the audiences we’ve chosen to start with. Back to the case study - time to talk strategy.

So, Write From The Heart were already seeing good results, so what did they need from us?


Well, as we mentioned above, they needed us to take control of the day to day and scale to achieve a whole new level of results.


We had great foundations to work with on this account: lots of past data, lots of content to work with, plenty of angles and audiences already being tested and of course, budget to work with.


We had two key things we needed to do to scale here:


Optimise what was already working – we got our technical team on the case to ensure we were getting the very best out of what was already showing promise.


More testing for scaling – when we scale, we don’t just increase the budget, we increase everything – including audiences, content and copy.


We got to work in October 2019, prepping Write From The Heart for one of their biggest times of year, Black Friday and Christmas.


We spent that first month learning the account, optimising and working out what we needed from the client to really make this work, including some website changes and even more content!


We spent the first 6 weeks of our relationship with this client working up towards being ready for Black Friday. We’d seen promising results throughout the start of November but the hard work really paid off during that final weekend.


Here’s how we ended November 2019:

We were so pleased with November’s results, as was Kirsty and the team at WFTH. However, there was no time to rest with Christmas trade coming in thick and fast. We continued working for another successful month in December.

But how did we do?

We ended the year strong with another month with an average 5+ ROAS.


The first 3 months of working with Write From The Heart had been a success but as we left Q4, we inevitably faced a whole new challenge – Q1. We were uncertain what trade would look like in January but we powered on with the strategy we knew was working but scaled back when and where required to maintain that ROAS.


January and February were both strong months too:


January 2020 = 992 sales, 5,06 ROAS, £34,250.34 conversion value


February 2020 = 1,181 sales, 4.38 ROAS, £39,687.08 conversion value


Q1 was going strong and we entered March 2020 feeling positive and confident, and then the whole world stopped.


We spoke closely with the client at this time to discuss potential challenges we faced. We were in the fortunate position of being an online retailer, opposed to on the high street but there was unique challenges here too.


We discussed potential stock and supply chain issues, delivery delays and possible staffing shortages and factored all these things into how we spent and scaled through April. Despite the world seemingly coming to a holt, April 2020 was our biggest month ever:

It was around this time that the client had this to say about our work:

We knew the current situation was helping our sales but we also worked closely with Kirsty and the team to ensure we were going forward with the right strategy.


They brought out a range of ‘when the world stayed apart’ products that could be personalised and we made these, along with other family focused gifts the centre of our campaigns and they continued to fly out.

Before the UK returned to some kind of ‘normal’, we secured another two months of big results:


May 2020 = 6,086 purchases, 4.95 ROAS, £219,019.02 conversion value


June 2020 = 7,683 purchases, 5.27 ROAS, £271,863.52 conversion value


As lives started to return to normal in July 2020, we expected to see a drop in sales throughout Q3 and we were prepared for it. However, we kept pushing out new content and copy to new audiences and scaling where results allowed.


Inevitably, we saw a dip compared to Q2 but results were still strong:

Heading into our second Q4 together, our relationship with Kirsty and the team was strong. There was a lot of mutual trust and understanding which is why this partnership has continued to work so well for over a year now.


October 2020 was steady and we could see the build-up to the main event – Black Friday.


We’d learnt from what did and didn’t work in 2019 and based our strategy around that. A very different Black Friday to the one before as we were now seeing non-essential high street retail closed for the event, meaning all customers were turning to online.


Our results for November 2020 didn’t disappoint:

Compared to November 2019, we increased purchases by 128% and conversion value by 142%.


When December rolled around, we did what we always do: created new copy and content for the client that is perfect for their brand and their advertising strategy.
